In the 1880s, Frederick Dickson of Philadelphia built a summer house on Maneskootuk Island (formerly Doctor’s Island) in Rangeley Lake. This book, written by his granddaughter, tells of life during Rangeley’s heyday as a destination for wealthy rusticators. First published in 1946, The Islanders is a perennial favorite.
